Constructions of the ‘migration crisis’ in Europe

Norman Ginsburg discusses the many different constructions put on the phenomenon of immigration in Europe. Contrasting welcoming perspectives with exclusionary ones. The starting point is the migrant crisis of the mid 2010s, which has brought these different perspectives into sharp relief. The development and key elements of these constructions are considered in Germany, Sweden, Hungary and the European Union (EU) itself. Norman has been Professor of Social Policy at London Met since 1996. Previously Norman had lecturing posts at the University of Warwick (1975 to 1983) and London South Bank University (1984 to 1996). Norman coordinated London Met’s submission in Social Work and Social Policy for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2014.
