Effectiveness of promotion incentives for public employees

In a study of high-skilled public employees, specifically academics, impact of promotion incentives on productivity were examined. . Using a fuzzy regression-discontinuity design, we analyzed the research productivity of assistant professors who narrowly qualified for associate professor positions compared to those who just missed the qualification. The results showed that the barely qualified scholars published significantly more papers in comparable-quality journals. This highlights the effectiveness of promotion incentives in public universities and organizations.
