Open Access Author Contracts and Alignment with Open Ethos

Open-access publishing has grown significantly in the past two decades, fueled by initiatives like the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI). The adoption of open-access policies by funders and universities, along with the emergence of platforms and tools, has facilitated this transition. Creative Commons licenses have been crucial in enabling the sharing of copyrighted material under a “some rights reserved” model. However, challenges arise when open-access journals deviate from the ethos, emphasizing the need for best practices to preserve integrity.
