Researchers conducted a case-control study to examine the predictors of postoperative injury or military discharge status in US Army soldiers after knee surgery. Data from over 7500 soldiers who underwent knee surgery between 2017 and 2019 were analyzed. Results showed that about 71% of the soldiers experienced a postoperative injury, and 17% were medically discharged within 4 years. Predictors of postoperative injury included previous nonknee injury, female sex, and Black race. Factors associated with discharge from duty included enlisted rank, recent fitness test failure, number of previous knee surgeries, and previous nonknee injury.
