Reclaiming the Past: Black Scholars in Psychology

Psychologists who identify as black have frequently been marginalized and given little access to ideas that center on the experiences of people of African origin. By emphasizing the important contributions made by a wide group of Black researchers in the area of psychology and related fields, this special issue seeks to address anti-Black racism. It covers five main themes: Black scholars’ explorations of race, racism, and racial identity; African psychologies, liberation, and decolonization; novel theories pertaining to Black children’s, youth’s, and families’ mental health; intersectional research and practice; and the creation of inclusive spaces within organizations already in place for the study of African American experiences.
