Michael Bratman develops and systematizes an approach to shared agency and seeks a framework for understanding basic forms of sociality. He argues that that planning structures ground a range of practical capacities that are central to our lives and that shared agency emerges, both functionally and rationally, from structures of interconnected planning agency.

Michael E. Bratman is the U. G. and Abbie Birch Durfee Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences, and Professor of Philosophy at Stanford.
