Recent research shows the effects of social context on political attitudes toward undocumented immigrants. Researchers measured attitudes on policies related to undocumented immigrants both before and after a Christian mission service. They found there was a statistically significant increase in pro-immigrant attitudes among respondents who were assigned to locations with greater contact with immigrants as compared to those who served in locations where such contact was less. The results suggest that mission service can have a positive effect on how people perceive undocumented immigrants. This could create more supportive communities for these individuals and their families.
